Jaya demands action against DMK legislator

Chennai, Aug 8  AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa today demanded action against a DMK legislator for allegedly attacking Anna University (Tirunelveli) Vice-Chancellor S Kaliappan and Physical Education Director Devadas

In a statement here, she said the attack had taken place just before the convocation was to commence yesterday.

She claimed that DMK ‘had engineered the attack.’

Jayalalilthaa recalled that government and police officials were treated with dignity and respect during the previous AIADMK regime, headed by her

But such officials have become the target of attacks in the DMK regime, she alleged and added that Devdas was attacked when he went to the rescue fo Kaliappan.

She said dalits were increasingly unsafe under DMK rule, proof of which was the attack on Kaliappan and suspension of IAS official C Umashankar.

She said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had not condemned the attack. Even Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, who attended the convocation, had not done so.

Jayalalithaa said the AIADMK would launch agitation if the DMK regime failed to put an end to such attacks and urged the Chief Minister to take action against the MLA. -Agencies
